Supporting Adoption & Fostering Efforts

SUPPORT NORTHSIDE MISSIONS

Exist to respond to God's command to care for the least of these by equipping, supporting and serving people interested in and/or involved in the adoption and fostering of children both in our community and in our church family.

There is a crisis in our community among children and families.  There are more abused and neglected children than there are loving families willing to serve them.  Children in the foster care system arrive having had few, if any, safe relationships and often grow into adults that repeat the cycle at an alarming rate. The SAFE Ministry exists to help break the cycle that creates abused and neglected children by supporting foster/adopt families and vulnerable individuals.

TOGETHER we can make a difference!  Not every family is called to foster or adopt, but every person can do SOMETHING to help break the cycle.

Opportunities to serve include:

Caring for Caseworkers

  • Write encouraging cards once a month
  • Help stuff care bags for caseworkers
  • Help with meal delivery and/or meal making for quarterly caseworker meetings hosted at our building
  • Help set up/clean up for quarterly caseworker meetings hosted at our building

Donations for children in foster care

Childcare

  • Become a certified babysitter/respite provider (must be at least 18)
  • Volunteering for a Foster/Adopt Parents’ Day Out, no babysitter certification necessary
  • Babysitting siblings while foster parents attend medical appts, court appts, therapy sessions with the foster children
  • Babysitting while foster parents attend mandatory annual trainings
  • Babysitting so that foster parents can get a few hours to recoup and renew
  • Volunteer for childcare for any trainings held at the building for foster parents

Supporting a foster family once a month or even quarterly with day-to-day items

  • Taking a meal
  • Mowing the lawn/repairs

Donations for young adults that aged out of foster care

  • School supplies for the few that are college bound

Become a mentor

  • Thru Project - Be trained and paired with a young adult that has aged out of care
  • CASA - Be trained and matched with a child in the foster system. You become another set of eyes and ears for the court and a consistent adult for that child that may end up having several placements during their time in care
  • If you have fostered or adopted before, you can become a mentor for families just beginning their journey.

Become a foster or adoptive family!  We’re committed to providing you with ongoing support spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

  • If you’d like to know more about fostering or adopting (from foster care, internationally or domestic infant adoption) please email us!
